Yolanda Nel Schools across the country have until 24 February to nominate six students that they feel have the potential to become Chartered Accountants or professionals accountants.
According to Nicole Dreyer, Marketing and Communications Manager at BDO, teachers should use their discretion in selecting the students. “They need to look beyond the grades on the exam paper and rather at the potential growth of each student,” she said.
The nominated students will spend two days with the BDO team during a career master class where they will engage in a variety of activities with the students. “Those who show the most promise may be approached with bursary offers,” Dreyer said.
Except for being in the running to receive a bursary, students may be employed as a first year trainee when they are academically ready. “You also have a unique opportunity to grow your leadership skills and gaining practical work experience through the opportunity to job shadow,” Dreyer added.
The master class takes place on 22 and 23 April and concludes with a formal dinner. The final decision for bursary recipients will only be made in January 2021 once students have matric results and university acceptance letters.
