Be safer this festive season

17 December 2018 | Crime

Just in time for the festive season, the MakeANoise initiative launched a personal safety alarm in Windhoek on Friday.

MakeANoise is a community safety and crime prevention initiative that wants to make sure that every Namibian woman, child and the most vulnerable members of society, feel safe in public spaces without fear of crime.

According to MakeANoise chief executive, Emmarencia van Wyk, the initiative focuses on providing safety tools for everybody. “We would like to see a safer Namibia. The aim is to not only reduce gender-based violence but crime in general and this will be done through community upliftment, empowerment campaigns and educational programmes,” she said.

The campaigns and educational programmes will be rolled out next year. “This initiative is to bring people together for a safer and crime free Namibia.”

The initiative is sponsored by Engen and endorsed by NamPol, the Windhoek City Police as well as the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.

At the launch guests enjoyed performances by the Namibian Police Force brass band as well as from the Drum Café cultural group.
