Big expo for Groot Aub
Over the long weekend at the end of August, the community located 49 km south of Windhoek presents sport, entertainment and business opportunities.

Groot Aub plays host to a business expo later this month.
The event takes place at the Eiland soccer field from 23 to 26 August and features business, music, good food, drinks and entertainment for the kids.
According to Hedwig Samuel of the Blessings on Blessings Foundation that is responsible for organising the event, they would like to ensure that residents of Groot Aub are equipped with business skills and knowledge to help them implement initiatives that fight unemployment and lack of resources in the constituency. Along with this, they hope to transform the lives of the community, create employment opportunities and in so doing, create an income.
The expo itself gives SMEs, businesses and individuals an opportunity to sell and showcase their products, while serving as a platform for entrepreneurs to exchange information and business ideas and to boost the morale of upcoming entrepreneurs.
Hedwig says that according to their research, there are three major challenges the community faces, firstly that people on ARV treatment need food to continue their treatment; that children are in desperate need of school uniforms; and finally, that orphans and the elderly don't have enough food.
“We feel that hosting the expo can help address these issues. However, to make a success of the event, we are calling on support of any kind. Not only will you be assisting us in making this event a success, but you will also be contributing to the community,” she says.
Entertainment
One of the highlights on the programme is 7-a-side soccer competition in which the winners will go home with N$2 000, while the second placed team gets N$1 000 and the third and fourth placed teams win N$500 each. Registration for the soccer cost N$500 per team. Call Maggy on 081 400 1514 to register before 21 August.
Along with the soccer, there is a netball competition, also with cash up for grabs. Registration costs N$100 per group. Contact Celeste on 081 220 5888 for more info and to register.
In terms of entertainment, guests can look forward to performances by Sunny Boy, TBoss and Staika, Swartbaster and Gysie.
So all in all, there is something for everyone.

Stall space is still available for corporates (N$1 000), food and drinks (N$500), N$250 for the kiddies corner and N$250 for SMEs. Application forms for the Miss Groot Aub Expo pageant cost N$50, as do application forms for entertainment.
