The Holy Bible says that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and that automatically gives everyone an obligation to take care of theirs.

There are many different ways in which we can neglect our bodies. Here at the coast where the weather is cool, it becomes very tempting to settle on a routine of eating fast food under the blankets on a daily basis.

It gets really tough to lose weight once you have decided to let go and let the mass pile up. A combination of bad eating choices and a lack of exercise finally leads to a declaration from the scale that the owner resides in an unwanted figure.

I have also been guilty of overindulging in unhealthy food myself and as a result, have now got a pot belly which I plan to get rid of in the near future. Having spoken to a few fitness gurus, they advised me to seek both a good diet as well as a workout plan which works.

These are probably two of the things which are prioritised by most when it comes to New Year’s resolutions and with me it is no exception.

When it comes to the diet, I discovered one valuable thing and that is water is an indispensable to weight loss. I have since been abusing water, drinking it at every opportune moment and the result is that it not only hydrates your body but revitalises your energy levels.

I also decided to cut down on fried foods (although these smell so good) as advised by my fitness gurus.

The best diet to go on is to have either grilled chicken or fish with vegetables. Although we like our beef, it takes many hours for our bodies to digest beef, while for chicken and fish it takes half the time. Vegetables take only 20 minutes to digest in our bodies. That is why they are so healthy. They also give us healthy carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

In terms of snacks, rather choose a juicy fruit of your choice as they have healthy sugars.

Working out your body is the other thing which can help you to take care of this temple of the Holy Spirit. Cardio is crucial to get your heart racing and your body sweating. The more you sweat, the more calories you burn. If you are at the gym, you can get your cardio workout on the treadmill. At home you can skip a rope or go for a jog along the beach. This ought to be done for at least 20 minutes per day.

Weightlifting is also essential as it gives the body strength by building its muscles.

Other ways of taking care of your body include not indulging in too much alcohol, being careful of the radiation caused by the sun and the damage caused by cigarettes. Let’s make it a habit of always prioritising our bodies by taking good care of them.
