Cash up for grabs this Valentines

03 February 2019 | Sports

An impressive N$30 000 is up for grabs next Saturday, when the Katutura Sport Union (KASU) hosts its fifth annual Valentine's Cup Competition. The tournament celebrates the day while promoting sport in Katutura in general.

KASU chairperson Kuveri Tjonga said that from the prize money, N$10 000 is for netball and the other N$20 000 for the soccer categories. The netball winners take home N$5 000, a trophy and 12 gold medals, while runners-up get N$2 500 plus 12 silver medals. Each semi-final loser takes home N$1 250.

The winning team in soccer pockets N$10 000, a trophy and 20 gold medals, while the runners-up get N$5 000 and medals and the semi-final losers each receive N$2 500.

According to Tjonga, the event is open for all teams, except Premier League teams.

“We only allow three Premier League players per team to boost the morale,” he said.

Registration for the tournament is N$1 800 and teams have until Tuesday (5 February) to pay, which is also the draw date. The draw takes place at Namibia English Primary school at 19:00. Khomasdal Stadium and Katutura Youth Complex are the venues for this year's events.

Established in 1992, KASU aims to develop sports in Katutura through various local sport codes that engage young people in and around Windhoek. – Nampa
