Chairs and tables for these schools

10 December 2018 | Education

New school chairs and tables valued at N$100 000 were recently handed to the Omatjete, Okongue , Otjohorongo and Otjiperongo primary schools by the FirstRand Namibia Foundation Trust.

This donation came after a visit to the Omatjete Primary School where abandoned desks and chairs – in need of minor repair work only – were seen on the school premises. As a result the trust and the Omaruru branch decided to jump in to assist.

According to Jan Engelbrecht, FNB Omaruru branch manager: “The simplicity of the idea – and the difference just a small investment in repairs could make to the school and their learners, resonated with us.

“Through this project, FNB Omaruru and the trust would like to make a change in our community, to the teachers and the learners at our schools. We have found a project we feel can be beneficial to all schools throughout our nation, while promoting FNB as a sustainable partner to our communities.

“We believe it is of utmost importance to involve the community in the solution we are providing. We are not just supplying new tables and chairs. We are asking the schools or prisons to provide the labour and be part of the solution. We're showing our country that together we can make a difference and a change.”

Inspector of Education, Engelhardt Uirab, thanked the trust for the support. “We can only through collective efforts achieve our goal to educate and train the Namibian child and equip them to shape their future.”
