Equality and equity in the spotlight

17 September 2018 | Local News

In a bid to address equality and social equity, Unam's faculty of humanities and social sciences along with the faculty of economic and management sciences, host a 2-day conference in the capital later this month.

Themed Equality & Equity: Towards Attaining a Decent Standard of Living, topics include the land question and land reform; infrastructural development; business and finance; economic recession and government debt; corruption, access to and quality of healthcare; equitable education (including funding, free education, public vs private schools); sovereign credit ratings; unemployment; the digital divide; and informality and the so-called second-class economy.

Research

The conference is part of the two faculties' annual research conferences and seeks to provide multidisciplinary discourse.

Since its inception in 2010, conference themes were based on research priorities of the University, but also pertinent to the topical debates in Namibia, Africa and the world at large. It also provided a space to disseminate knowledge through academic dialogue.

Venue

The conference takes place at Nipam in Olympia on 26 and 27 September.

Participation is free and open to the public, although there are limited seats available. Parties and institutions wanting to participate, can register via www.unam.edu.na or send an email to [email protected]
