Erasmus heads national cricket team

17 March 2019 | Sports

Cricket Namibia announced that Gerhard Erasmus, who has represented Namibia since 2011, has been selected as the new captain of the senior men’s National Team.

Erasmus is a right-hand batter and an off break bowler. Having represented Namibia at U19 level, and captaining them at the U19 Cricket World Cup, he made his first class debut in an ICC Intercontinental Cup match for Namibia against Ireland in Belfast on 6 September 2011 and followed this up with his first List A match for Namibia against Scotland on 28 September 2011 in Windhoek.

Since then he has been a regular in the Namibian team in all formats and has built a reputation for tight bowling and dominant batting in the top order. More recently he was the captain at Maties for two years and has a highest First-class score of 195. Whilst still young, his experience to date has been outstanding.

Along with Erasmus, Jan Frylinck was selected as vice-captain.
