Galz & Goals head east

19 September 2019 | Sports

The Omaheke Galz & Goals programme host trials for girls between 10 and 20 years old at the Gobabis Primary School from 08:00 on Saturday, with calls on girls born after January 2002 to attend trials.
According to the coordinator of the programme in the Omaheke region, Jeraldo Eiseb, schools in Gobabis are active in the league and that they’re hoping to select a strong group of players to compete in the u/17 Galz & Goals Championship slated for 5 October in Windhoek.
“Who knows, maybe one or two will follow in the footsteps of u/20 National Women’s Football team player Veronica van Wyk and Baby Gladiator Tjamunene Ndjavera!”
The trials will be conducted by Ewald Kaviromba, head coach of the U/17 regional boys’ team and Ruddy Nunuheb, newly appointed coach of Omaheke Queens, who campaigned in the Skorpion Zinc Women’s Super League.
The Galz & Goals programme was launched in 2009 by the Namibia Football Association’s Women’s Desk in partnership with United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) to promote life and football skills among girls.
Since 2010, when Unicef began the Galz & Goals partnership with NFA, more than 18 000 girls from nine regions have been assisted.
