If you think you have what it takes to be crowned the Kapana king or queen for 2019, then you better hurry to enter the annual Nedbank Kapana cook-off.

This year there are four cook-off rounds to compete in. Entries for the Northern round close on 7 June, while other participants have until 21 June to enter for the Central round. Those at the Coast have until 5 July to enter, while entries for the East close on 19 July.

Cook-offs take place in Oshakati on 15 June and on 29 June in Windhoek, while those in Walvis Bay will have to wait until 13 July. The participants in Gobabis only braai on 27 July.

According to the organisers, the final round takes place in Ongwediva on 24 August.

The basics are that all contestants need to travel and book accommodation for their own pocket; they should provide their own special Kapana spice, a knife for chopping, as well as cutting boards and bowls. Nedbank will provide the grill, grid, fire, meat, braai utensils en salsa ingredients.

Judgement

Participants will be judged on hygiene, taste, skills, presentation and creativity within the Kapana tradition. Ten finalists will be chosen in each round from which three will be chosen to take part in the final round. Participants are only allowed to take part in one of the regional rounds. Also, winners of the last 2 years are not allowed to enter this year's competition.

The judging process will be facilitated by NamChefs.

The ultimate Kapana champion will walk away with a Nedbank account with N$10 000, a Meatma voucher of N$5 000, a mobile Kapana kitchen and participation in an SME mentorship programme.

Prizes for the runner up are a Nedbank account with N$7 000 and a N$3 000 Meatma voucher. Third place gets a N$3 000 Nedbank account and a N$2 000 Meatma voucher.

Entry forms are available at all Nedbank branches.

Completed forms can be hand delivered to any branch or emailed to [email protected]
