Glimlag, ten spyte van pandemie

Met ’n hart vol liefde vir haar gemeenskap, het een vrou in die Goreangab nedersetting in 2004 haar
eerste skool geopen en spog sy vandag met ’n tweede skool in Havana.
Erica Kamujame het self eers as ’n onderwyseres begin. “Ek het by ’n skool in Katutura gewerk,”
vertel sy. “Maar ek kon nie help om te wonder oor die opvoeding van die kinders in Goreangab nie.
Dis my plek en ek moes na die kinders hier kom omsien.”
Sy het haar dagsorgsentrum met vyf kinders begin, maar vandag sien sy om na 66 kinders en het
haar skool aansienlik uitgebrei. Behalwe vir die kleuterskool, bied sy ook nasorg vir kinders wat in die
skool is. “Dan help ons met huiswerk,” sê sy.
Erica het verlede jaar die nuwe skool in die Havana nedersetting oopgemaak. “Die pandemie was vir
ons ’n groot terugslag. Ek kon nie my mense betaal nie. Maar hulle het elke dag teruggekom. Ook in
Januarie kon ons weer nie salarisse kry nie. Maar hier is ons ’n familie. Ons bly saam en eet saam en
gaan saam deur die moeilike tye,” sê sy.
Hoewel Erica heel jaar nie munispale rekeninge kon betaal nie, gee sy nog steeds elke dag vir kinders
iets om te eet.
