Groot planne vir jong skoolhoof

Kom 1 Februarie, staan ’n jong vrou in groot skoene.
Die 25-jarige onderwyseres, Tiandra Olivier, sal van volgende week die pos as skoolhoof van die
nuwe Lingua privaatskool volstaan. Dié skool is deel van die Lingua Onderriggroep wat sedert 2001
bestaan. Die hoërskool begin vanjaar met graad 8 en 9.
Olivier het aansoek vir die pos gedoen omdat sy geglo het sy was ’n goeie kandidaat, “veral
aangesien dit ’n nuwe skool is en ek as jong persoon met vars en nuwe idees ’n aanwins sou wees.
As ek moet beskryf hoe ek gevoel het toe ek die pos gekry het, kan ek dit opsom as ’n mengsel van
opgewondenheid, dankbaarheid maar ook ’n knertsie angstigheid vir die onbekende. Dit voel steeds onwerklik, maar dit sal seker meer realisties voel wanneer ek begin werk.”
Sy pak hierdie nuwe uitdaging aan met hulp en leiding van God.
“Een ding wat ek in 2020 geleer het is dat wanneer onderwysers saamwerk as ’n span, kan hulle
wonders bereik. Die sleutel lê in spanwerk, om mekaar se foute, swakpunte en sterkpunte raak te
sien, te respekteer en mekaar te waardeer. Dit is ook dan met hierdie lewenslesse waarmee ek 2021 en die uitdaging as skoolhoof gaan aanpak.”

Uitdagings
Vir Olivier was die pad om op hier te kom, nie aldag maklik nie.
Sy is reeds in die laerskool met disleksie gediagnoseer en moes baie hulp ontvang om net te slaag.
Maar in matriek slaag sy met ’n gemiddeld van 78% en begin haar geesteswetenskapsgraad in 2014.
In 2017 begin sy haar menslike hulpbronnebestuur honneursgraad, terwyl sy as Afrikaans eerste
taal, Afrikaans tweede taal en huishoudkunde onderwyseres by Berg-Op Akademie aangestel is. Sy
het verlede jaar haar HOD kwalifasie by die Noordwes Universiteit verwerf en slaag met nege
onderskeidings en ’n algehele 78%.
Volgens Olivier volg die skool die Namibiese kurrikulum en bied dit verskeie sportkodes vir leerders
aan sodat ’n holistiese ontwikkeling van die kind bereik kan word. “Met kleiner klasse word verseker
dat elke leerder die nodige aandag ontvang sodat hulle tot die beste van hul vermoë kan presteer en nie net as ’n nommer in ’n klas beskou word nie,” sê sy.
Die skool spog ook met ’n koshuis wat leerders die geleentheid gee om van reg oor die land in te
skakel en deel te word van die skoolgemeenskap.
