Hoewel die eienaar van die Haven Zoological Park in Kleine Kuppe tans finansieël swaar trek, het hy
baie planne om te verseker die park bly oop.
Volgens Martin Wiese het hy die park in 2008 geopen om ’n plek vir kinders te skep om verskillende
soorte diere te sien. “Daar is kinders wat hier was, ses of sewe jaar oud, wat nog nooit ’n hoender
gesien het nie,” vertel hy. Hy voeg by dat almal nie in ’n posisie is om ’n plaas te besit en plaasdiere
vir hulle kinders te kan wys nie. “Hier was ook al volwassenes wat ’n eland vir ’n gemsbok aangesien
het en met my daaroor gestry het,” lag hy.
Boonop is dit vir hom belangrik om vir jonk en oud ’n plek te skep om te kan ontspan. “Kinders kan
die diere kos gee terwyl hulle ouers ’n koffie geniet,” sê hy.
Maar ná groot verliese vroeër vanjaar weens Covid, staar hy nou skuld in die gesig.
In ’n poging om hierdie skuld te delg, is Martin nou besig om geld in te samel om die munisipale
rekening te betaal en dus is enige donasies in hierdie verband waardeer. “Ek het nog soveel planne
vir hierdie park. Ek wil ’n verskeidenheid diere aanskaf; diere wat nie aldag gesien word nie. Die
alpakkas hier is reeds ’n treffer.”
Hy beoog ook om Russiese swane en kamele aan te skaf. Indien moontlik, wil hy ook ’n swembad
inbou, om veral tieners na die park te lok. “Dit moet ’n lekker uitstappie vir die hele familie wees.”
As jy die vakansie met Jan tuisbly se karretjie ry, gaan maak gerus ’n draai by die dieretuin in Kleine
Kuppe vir ’n paar uur se ontspanning. “Ek wil geen donasies in my rekening ontvang nie. Diegene wie
wil help, kan ’n betaling direk in die park se munisipale rekening maak.”
