Die Rehoboth dorpsraad het vroeër hierdie week gesê die ministerie van gesondheid en maatskaplike dienste het ’n hepatitis E-uitbreking op die dorp aangekondig.

In hierdie lig het die dorpsraad inwoners aangemoedig om op hul hoede te wees en hulself teen infeksie te beskerm. Die eerste geval is op 23 Mei op die dorp gerapporteer en staan die aantal bevestigde gevalle nou op agt.

Landwyd woed die siekte sedert September 2017 in 12 streke en is 41 mense reeds daaraan dood.

Die Rehoboth dorpsraad het inwoners gemaan om hul hande te was na hulle ’n toilet gebruik, met die voorbereiding van kos en met etes, asook om ten alle tye persoonlike higiëne te handhaaf. ’n Beroep is ook op inwoners gedoen om altyd seep en skoon, lopende water te gebruik wanneer hulle hul hande was.

Die dorpsraad waarsku ook dat veral swanger vroue in ’n hoë risiko-groep is en dat hulle met kliniekbesoeke vir simptome van die siekte getoets moet word.

Tekens van hepatitis E sluit in geel oë, koors, moegheid, ’n gebrek aan eetlus, naarheid, braking, maagpyn, donker uriene en lyfseer.
