Herrie oor straatnaamverandering

Yolanda Nel Die verandering van 13 straatname in Windhoek om hulde aan Namibiese helde te bring, het
inwoners die harnas in.
Behalwe vir die kostes van sulke veranderinge wat moeilik is om te bereken (soos adresveranderinge
op briefhoofde), het Windhoek Express kwotasies aangevra by besighede wat hierdie soort werk
doen om te bepaal hoeveel elke staatnaambord kos.
Een maatskappy het N$940 per Bufcor-naamplaat kwoteer. Dié plate word in ’n ligboks geplaas.
Daarmee saam kos dit ’n addisionele N$130 vir ’n aluminiumaansluiting, sowel as N$130 vir ’n
aluminiumpaal, wat dubbeld sal wees as die bord twee pale nodig het.
Hierdie N$1 200 per straatnaam sluit nog nie belasting in nie en ook nie arbeid nie, sou werknemers
van die Windhoekse munisipaliteit nie self die installasie doen nie.
’n Gewone swart en wit straatnaambord kos N$560 per bord indien dit kleiner as 900mm is, teenoor
N$680 vir naamborde groter as 900mm. Die koste beloop dan tussen N$800 en N$920 per
straatnaam. Elke straat benodig ten minste twee nuwe naamborde. Daar moet ook in ag geneem
word dat die kruisingstraat se naamborde ook oorgedoen moet word, wat addisionele kostes
beloop.
Nog ’n maatskappy wat naamborde vervaardig, het gesê hulle kan nie ’n kwotasie voorsien nie
aangesien straatnaamborde self deur die munisipaliteit maak. Dit kon is egter nie deur die
munisipaliteit bevestig word nie.
“Daar is nie geld vir belangrike projekte nie, maar ons kan straatname verander,” het iemand op
sosiale media kommentaar gelewer. Ander het gesê hulle verstaan die veranderinge is om individue
te vereer, maar terselfde tyd gaan inwoners in hospitale dood en word daar op elke hoek ’n
hawelose persoon gesien.
Nog ’n inwoner het geskryf dat die geld wat op die straatnaamveranderinge spandeer wordkon
eerder gebruik kan word om beddens vir die staatshospitaal te koop, “waar pasiënte op die vloer
slaap.”
Daar is ook gevra of die nuwe straatname nie eerder gebruik kan word vir nuwe uitbreidings in die
hoofstad nie.
Die Windhoekse stadsraad het egter sedert verlede week toe navrae aan hulle gerig is, nog nie
daarop reageer nie.
