Heuwels stel ‘Volume’ vry

Op Die Heuwels Fantasties se agste ateljee album Volume, sien ons hoe dié innoverende groep hul 90s invloede in die huidige digitale stroom-era inspan.
Volume, wat vandag uitgereik word, spog met ’n eklektiese mengsel van akoestiese treffers, pop-punk, synth-ballades en so bietjie electro-folk vir ’n uitsonderlike audio umami.
Hunter Kennedy vertel dat hy uit sy nate is oor die uitreiking van die nuwe album: “Dit is ons derde sedert die pestilensie en ek dink dit het in ons guns getel om geolie te bly. Pierre het ’n great job gedoen met die skryf van ‘Eggo’ en die samewerking met Spoegwolf het dit natuurlik tot ’n volgende vlak geneem.
“Ek hou ook baie van “Werk vir ’n lewe’ se energie. Ons het dit ontgun daar waar Blink-182 die wortels begrawe het. Ek sou sê die album as geheel is ’n kombinasie tussen die volwassenheid van ‘Herverbeel’ en die dringendheid van ‘2021’. ‘Volume II’ is ook al amper klaar en dit maak my nog meer opgewonde. Ons het baie nuwe musiek om te deel!”
Fred den Hartog voeg by: “Met Volume het ons die saksofoon, kitaar, klavier, perkussie en stemme op ’n ander manier benader. Ons het alles stuk-stuk opgeneem om uiteindelik by ’n plek te kom wat vars, uniek en steeds ‘Heuwels’ is, as dit sin maak. Ek hoop almal hoor en voel ons deur hierdie paar songs te luister.”
Die eerste enkelsnit vanaf die nuwe album, “Eggo” is ’n karige ballade vir onseker tye. Die subtiele klavier en tjello skep asemhalingsruimte vir Pierre (Die Heuwels Fantasties) en Danie (Spoegwolf) om hul aparte kwesbaarhede te emotiveer. Die liedjie se crescendo is ’n katarsiese samekoms van twee generasies van alternatiewe Afrikaner.
