Last weekend the first national qualifier of the Red Bull Neymar Jr Fives kicked off in Namibia with 16 teams battling it out for their spot at the national final set to take place in Windhoek at the end of this month.

The first round took place at the Oshakati stadium where teams went head to head in the group stages, showcasing the raw talent of local football. The knock out stages were filled with fast-paced football, with the final eight teams battling it out for their spot on the road to the national final.

However, it was Katengela FC that proved to be the strongest, winning the title of the Northern Champions after a close final against Team J. Perny.

According to Red Bull Brand Manager, Nadja Geiger, “This 5-a-side tournament allows the youth to showcase their talent on an international platform and we are proud to see so many soccer skills in our country.”

The top five Oshakati teams of the day secured their positions for the national final where they will have the opportunity to claim their title as the national champions paving their way to the world final in Brazil.

The final is set to take place in July 2019 in Brazil where teams from all around the globe will have the opportunity to battle it out for the world champion title as well as the opportunity to play against Neymar Jr himself.

Red Bull thanks their partners Snickers, Fresh FM, GIZ, FLI, Shoprite and NBC. Following Saturday’s qualifier in Windhoek, the next round takes place in Swakopmund on Saturday (20 April).
