Yolanda Nel - Om goed te doen aan ander is nie net 'n opdrag nie, maar 'n voorreg. En dit is dié voorreg wat een man aanspoor om terug te ploeg in sy gemeenskap.

Alfons Seibeb het in 2003 onder leiding van wyle oom Appie du Plooy met sendingwerk in 'n woonbuurt naby Goreangabdam begin. Sedert oom Appie se dood, doen Alfons die sendingwerk op sy eie, onder die vaandel van die Namibiese Sendingsentrum.

Alfons het destyds 'n erf gekoop en met die hulp van gemeentelede kon hulle 'n groot sinkvertrek oprig wat as 'n kerkgebou dien. Hier word dan steeds Sondae eredienste gehou

Oom Appie was 'n lidmaat van die Gereformeerde Kerk Windhoek-Suid en dié gemeente betaal steeds elke maand Alfons se rekening vir die erf by die munisipaliteit. “Hoewel die gemeente 'n klein salaris aan Alfons betaal, was daar ongelukkig die afgelope vier maande nie genoeg geld beskikbaar nie,” vertel Beatrix Mulder, wat ook 'n lid van die gemeente is.

Benewens die eredienste, het Alfons ook 'n weeklikse sopkombuis vir kinders en oumense op die been gebring. Hy het vroeër vanjaar ook uit sy eie 'n kleuterskool begin wat op 'n nie-winsgewende basis bedryf word. Die sinkgebou word deur die week as 'n dagsorgsentrum ingerig.

“Die sendingwerk is vir hom 'n passie en hy bly hoop en vertrou dat hy veral finansiële ondersteuning sal ontvang om voort te gaan,” sê Beatrix. En met die Kersseisoen op ons, is hy weer besig met 'n jaarlikse Kers-ete wat op 8 Desember plaasvind. Hy hoop dus mense sal hul harte en hande oopmaak.

“Ons vra vir kosskenkings vir tussen 100 en 150 kinders en oumense,” sê Alfons. Hulle benodig aartapels, uie, kool, wortels, vleis en sopbene, so-wel as pakkies sop, pampoen, suiker, broodmeel, kitssuurdeeg, kookolie, hout, lekkers, plastiek lepels en bakkies.
