Koop vandag nog by ’n boer

Benewens die droogte wat al jare lank boere in die land kwel, het die inperking ’n verdere impak op diegene wat sorg dat daardie heerlike steak en gesonde groente en vrugte op jou bord kan beland.
Om hierdie rede het Henriëtte le Grange die ‘Koop direk van die boer Namibië’ Facebook-blad geskep. Henriëtte is ook die stigter van die Droogtehulpfonds. “Aangesien ons Droogtehulpfonds nou leeg is, het ek besef ons moet iets anders probeer sodat die boer wel ’n inkomste kan genereer en dan self voer vir die diere te kan koop,” het sy verduidelik.
“Daar is eenvoudig nie meer geld oor nie en boere wat steeds onder die droogte gebukkend gaan, sit al die afgelope nege of tien jaar in hierdie bootjie,” het sy gesê. Sy voeg by dat dit tot ’n groot mate ouer boere is wat nie meer ander werk kan doen nie – al wat hulle ken is die boerdery.
Henriëtte het sommer vinnig gesien watter groot behoefte daar aan vars plaasprodukte is. “Binne 11 dae was daar reeds meer as 8 000 lede op die blad,” vertel sy trots. Sy reken daar is om en by 50 boere wat hul produkte op die blad adverteer.
“Soos elke ander persoon wat deur Covid-19 geraak word, word die boere ook geraak. Veilings vind wel plaas, maar mense is skrikkerig om by te woon,” het sy gesê. Sy het ook gehoor dat van die veilings in die suide gekanselleer is weens swak pryse. “Hierdie blad gee boere darem ’n ander platform om hul produkte te bemark.”
Dit breek haar hart om te sien hoe swaar haar mede-boere kry. “Ek het geen manier om te help nie. Droogtehulp Namibië glo daaraan om ook self hand by te sit en goed te reël om geld in te samel, maar nou is ons hande afgekap. Op die stadium kry almal swaar.”
