Kwarentynlot vir trokbestuurders

Hoewel diegene wie hulself in kwarentyn bevind wel drie etes ’n dag kry en die
regering pa staan vir die rekening, is daar meer as een persoon wat vermoed
daar is ’n slang in die gras. 
“Ons kry drie etes ’n dag, maar die dag toe ons hier aangekom het, was hulle
nog besig om die plek uit te verf en alles reg te kry,” vertel ’n man wat
anoniem wil bly oor sy tyd in kwarentyn. Volgens hom het van die kamers nog
nie water gehad nie.
Dit alles is darem nou uitsorteer.
Hoewel hy nie in een van die swakste kwarentynfasiliteite bly nie, wonder hy
wel presies hoeveel die regering vir die verblyf moet opdoek. “Ons verneem dit
is baie geld om soveel mense van drie etes ’n dag te voorsien, saam met
akkommodasie, maar dit wat ons kry, regverdig dit nie,” het hy sy mening
gelig.
Hy het vroeër die week ’n foto van sy ontbyt op sosiale media gedeel, maar die
kommentaar was tweesydig. Baie het gesê hy moet dankbaar wees vir wat hy
kry, omdat die kos in die staatshospitale veel erger lyk en dat talle Namibiërs
wat in die lae inkomste groepe lewe, op baie minder as dit moet oorleef.
Maar as ’n trokdrywer is hy van mening dat hy tog sy opoffering maak. “Ek is
vyf maande van my familie af om vragte te ry om te verseker dat almal kos en
medisyne kan aanskaf. Ons maak ook opofferings om vir ander te voorsien.”
Die man verduidelik van die tussen 150 en 200 mense wat tans saam met hom
in kwarentyn is, sowat 20 trokdrywers is. “Daar kom nou weekliks talle vragte
in met voorraad en as ons vir so lank in kwarentyn bly voor ons weer in die pad
moet val, gaan daar mos iewers ’n tekort aan drywers wees.”
Hoewel hy in Suid-Afrika en in Botswana getoets is vir Covid-19 en sy resultaat
negatief was, sê hy dat hy nie in Namibië getoets nie. Ná sy 14 dae in
kwarentyn, moet hy weer begin vragte ry en as hy terugkom, begin die
kwarentyntydperk net weer van voor. “Ons het ook families. Ons wil ook skoon
klere aantrek en ’n bord kos by ons huis eet. Maar ons word soos kriminele
behandel. Wat gebeur as ons almal staak?” wou hy weet.
