Met die dorpsraad wat volgens inwoners nie geld het om bordjies met straatname aan te bring nie, is inwoners dit eens dat dit eintlik nie eers nodig is nie

Wanneer jy Rehoboth se strate begin op of af ry, vra jy nie vir iemand 'n straatnaam nie, want boorlinge van dié dorp weet presies waar wat is.

“Hier praat ons van die Drop Inn se straat en die straat waar oom Loftie bly. Die mense weet waar is Namakari se hoek en almal weet Sunny Side se straat is die laaste een.”

Só skryf 'n inwoner op die Rehoboth Sake-groep na 'n gesprek oor die feit dat straatname 'n goeie beeld vir die dorp sal skep.

Maar die inwoners is dit eens, almal ken Africa se indraai en Blok E se teerpad. Almal weet Blok D is die laaste straat as jy met die teerpad opkom. “Ons weet nie waar Sam Nujomastraat is nie en jy kan sê kry my in Pohambastraat, maar jy gaan steeds verduidelik dat dit is waar Johniekies supermark was,” sê hy.

Ander het gespot en wou weet hoe jy stofstrate name kan gee.

“Ons kan nie strate name gee wat nie ligte het nie, hoe sal ons die name lees?” skerts een, terwyl 'n ander daarop antwoord dat die straatname geld kos wat eerder gebruik kan word om die gate in die paaie en die ligte reg te maak.

Tog het ander uitgewys dat Rehoboth wel straatname het, daar is net nie bordjies in die dorp opgerig nie. Nog een het gesê dit is goed om die leiers met straatname te vereer, maar meeste het gevoel leiers van Rehoboth moet eerder vereer word en nie politici nie. “Leiers wat 'n verskil in Rehoboth gemaak het. Wat het Pohamba vir Rehoboth gedoen?” wou iemand weet.

Of jy by Sunny Boy Bailey se boom bly of Oom Bok se straat, almal op Rehoboth weet waar hulle jou gaan kry.
