Michael ‘Maestro’ Beukes stel boek bekend

Die skrywer Michael Beukes is in Windhoek gebore en getoë en het nog altyd gehoop om ’n positiewe verskil in mense se lewens te maak.
Michael is sy ma se tweede kind, met ’n ouer broer en jonger suster. Hulle het verskillende pa’s en het dus nooit as ’n gesin saam gewoon nie. Hy het ook ’n baba boetie gehad wat ses maande ná sy geboorte, dood is. Toe die kinders se ma besluit om hulle te verlaat, het hulle as weeskinders groot geword. Hy en sy sibbe het as tieners die skoknuus ontvang dat hulle 34-jarige ma haar lewe aan MIV verloor het.
Tog, ten spyte van sy agtergrond, ag Michael homself as gelukkig en buitengewoon geseënd in vergelyking met baie van sy weesbroers en -susters met wie hy ’n lang pad by die SOS-kinderdorp in Khomasdal gestap het. Hy besef dat nie almal wat in ’n weeshuis groot geword het, die kans het om hul ervarings en verslawings te deel nie, sê hy.
Gegewe sy hartseer verlede, is dit merkwaardig om as volwassene terug te keer en sy diens aan ’n welsynsorganisasie te bied.
Micheal kan vandag met lof gesels oor sy lewe by die SOS-kinderdorpe in Windhoek en Tsumeb waar hy gevorm is in die persoon wat hy vandag is. “Ons het elkeen ons eie ervarings – beter of slegter, want God het ’n plan vir elkeen van ons. Dis hoekom ons nie mekaar moet oordeel nie. God gee ons altyd ’n keuse om tussen reg en verkeerd te kies.
“Ek het geleer om positief te wees want verkeerde keuses se gevolge gooi net jou visie vir ’n beter toekoms omver. Dit is hoekom ek geleer het om my naaste en my eie lewe te verbeter,” sê hy. “My ervarings het my ook laat besef dat ek graag ’n nalatenskap wil bou deur my lewe te wy aan die opheffing van ander en om hulle te help groei deur die ervarings wat ek moes deurmaak.”
Dit is juis hoekom hy die boek Fulfillment - through the eyes of an orphan in Engels, en Vervulling - deur die oë van 'n weeskind in Afrikaans, geskryf het.
Vandag woon Michael op Rehoboth waar hy as Maestro die barbier bekend is en na hy in 2002 weer by SOS betrokke geraak het, “om ’n verskil te maak waar ons regering nie hul vlerke uitsprei nie.”

Inspirasie
Michael verduidelik dat hy geïnspireer is deur die wyle Hermann Gmeiner wat die SOS Kinderdorp Organisasie wêreldwyd gestig het asook ander SOS-wesies se volgehoue motivering om ’n sukses van sy lewe te maak.
“Sommige van my skoolmaats het intussen die lewe verlaat. Dan is daar van hulle wat na hulle biologiese gesinne terug gekeer het met die hoop van ’n beter lewe, maar wat wreed ontnugter is toe hulle besef dat niks verander het by die huise waar hulle verwaarloos en mishandel is nie.”
Micheal sê dat hy nie in hierdie boek sy eie beuel wil blaas nie, maar eerder hoop om die jeug en gemeenskap se lewens te verbeter met die boodskap wat hy daarin deel.
“Daar is ’n goeie toekoms as ons net glo dat God alles moontlik kán maak. Ek wil ook graag my belofte aan my wyle ouma Johanna Martina Beukes (Ousie Possie) nakom deur te sê: ‘Ouma, ek is die lig aan die einde van die donker tonnel’.”
Michael se boek is vir eers as ’n e-boek beskikbaar, aangesien hy nog na borge soek wat kan help met die fisiese druk daarvan. “Hiermee wil ek graag ’n versoek rig aan Namibiërs om my boek te koop. Elkeen wat ’n e-boek koop, sal sodra dit gedruk is, verniet ’n kopie daarvan ontvang,” sê hy.
