Ian Nortje – The City of Windhoek is investing a total of N$47 million for the upgrade of the Monte Christo Road north of the city in the Goreangab suburb.
The construction work of the project commenced on 2 August and during the upgrade approximately 7.3 km of the existing gravel road in this northern suburb will be tarred and upgraded to bitumen standards.
According to the City of Windhoek the road will be partially closed from the junctions with Outapi and Bethanie Street, due to the construction that will take place. Residents of the area will still be able to access the roads during the upgrading.
The roads to be upgraded are: Omuvapu Street (2.5 km), Tauno Hatuikilipi Street (0.8 km), Walvis Bay/Omutula Street (1.8 km), Monte Christo Road (0.6 km), Tolla Street (0.7 km), Bethanie Street (0.2 km), Outapi Street (0.4 km) and Lucia Street (0.3 km).
A request issued by City of Windhoek asks residents to exercise caution whilst using the road.
“It is unfortunate that, although the road maintenance, upgrade and expansion are necessary, it has been observed in the past that some motorists are impatient and not adhering to the signage. This action is expensive as it leads to delay in the projects. We therefore urge all road users to adhere to the signage and speed restrictions around the construction work.”
It is expected that that the upgrade of the road will be completed by 23 July 2015.
