Simba, die Jack Russel van Morne en Liesie du Plessis, het nie lank gelede nie, ’n sebra-slang in hul tuin vrekgebyt – enkele weke ná ’n Windhoekse kleuter sy lewe verloor het na hy deur dieselfde slangspesie gebyt is. ’n Foto van Morne wat die allemintige lang slang vashou, saam met Simba, is wyd op sosiale media versprei.

“’n Toekenning van dapperheid is deur die Kleine Kuppe buurtwag aan Simba oorhandig,” vertel Ilse van Greunen van die KKNHW.

Na die nuus op die KKNHW whatsapp-groep gedeel is, het Kelvin Nolte, wat onlangs Skotland toe geïmmigreer het, besluit die klein viervoetige held moet beloon word. “Kelvin het gesê ons moet dadelik ’n jassie vir Simba kry vir sy dapperheid, maar ons kon nêrens een opspoor nie. Toe besluit ons op ’n naamplaatjie waarop staan, ‘Little dog, big attitude',” vertel sy.

Saam met die jassie was heerlike peuselhappies vir die woef, ’n speelding en natuurlik sy Dapperheid-sertifikaat – alles deur Kelvin geborg.

Ilse sê dit blyk nie of daar ’n probleem is met sebra-slange in die area nie. “Dit is somer en dan gaan die slange daar waar kos en skuiling is, of kuier hier en daar. Dis die natuur,” sê Ilse. “Die slang het daardie dag net by die verkeerde huis gaan kuier,” skerts sy.
