NamBTS needs more blood
07 October 2019 | Local News
According to NamBTS’s manager for Donor Recruitment and Public Relations, Zita Tobin, the organisation collected about 8 550 litres of blood between June and August in 2019 compared to 8 850 litres received in 2018 during the same period. She thus urged the public, especially the youth, to donate blood to save thousands of lives as Namibia approaches the festive season.
Tobin said there are many trauma incidents that occur on daily basis and especially during the festive season such as road accidents. She said the service aims to save lives but that blood only lasts 45 days before expiring, which is why they are constantly making collections.
Tobin urged the public, including students at institutions of higher learning and other schools to donate blood as earlier as possible so that there is at least enough blood in stock before festive season commences in December. – Nampa
