Onderrig op jou voorstoep

Wanneer dit kom by onderrig, moet afstand nooit ’n probleem wees nie. Toe dit wel ’n probleem word, het een universiteit besluit om pro-aktief op te tree.

Die Noordwes-Universiteit (NWU) het pas twee kantore in Namibië geopen en is trots daarop dat hulle gehalte onderrig kan bied aan die meer as 1 500 plaaslike studente wat tans vir die oop-afstandonderrig kursusse ingeskryf is.

Deur hul teenwoordigheid in Windhoek sal die NWU ook nuwe en voornemende studente kan bystaan wat deur middel van oop-afstandonderrig wil studeer. Hulle het ook onderneem om met aansoeke te help, of wanneer studente inligting en leiding nodig het.

Die programme wat aangebied word sluit ’n gevorderde sertifikaat en diploma in onderwys in, ’n gevorderde diploma in opvoedkunde en ’n graad R-diploma. Hulle bied ook BEd en BEd-honneurs aan.

In ander vakgebiede bied die eenheid ’n BA-graad in Teologie, ’n BA-graad in publieke bestuur met polisiepraktyk, ’n BSc in inligtingstegnologie en ’n nagraadse diploma in bestuur en programme vir universiteitsvoorbereiding aan.

Afstandonderrig is die ideale oplossing vir studente wat nie voltyds by ’n universiteit kan inskryf nie. Een oudstudent stem saam. “Hoewel ek al klaar studeer het, werk ek glad nie in die rigting waarin ek studeer het nie,” sê Rhena Buys. “Hierdie program stel my nou in staat om verder te studeer, terwyl ek werk.”

Omdat die kantore naby haar geleë is, is kommunikasie ook makliker.

Vyf personeellede bestuur die administrasie en logistiek van die eenheid, asook die bemarking van die programme. Die kantore is ten volle toegerus met internetverbinding en diensstasies waar studente by die NWU se webwerf kan aanteken om materiaal af te laai of aanlyn aansoek te doen.

Die nuwe kantore is in Windhoek by die Ou Kragstasie geleë asook in Ongwediva.

Die programme word aangebied deur geskeduleerde witbord-kontakgeleenthede wat afgelaai kan word. Studente wat nie toegang tot ’n rekenaar het nie, kan klasse bywoon by een van die studente-ondersteuningsentrums, wat met rekenaars en Wifi toegerus is. Studente-ondersteuningsentrums is in Windhoek, Ongwediva, Rundu en Katima Mulilo geleë.
