Die reuk van kaneel hang in die lug wanneer jy vroeg op ’n Woensdagoggend by die
Kankervereniging van Namibië (CAN) instap.
Onder in die raadsaal bak beslag in 13 panne terwyl ’n handvol mense besig is om die gaar
pannekoeke te rol en te verpak. Sonder om ’n noot te mis word die pannekoeke op die regte
oomblik omgedraai.
Dit is een van vele nuwe maniere wat CAN gebruik om geld te probeer insamel. “Ons word nou almal
ingespan as bakkers en kokke,” lag die vereniging se uitvoerende hoof, Rolf Hansen. Hulle bestellings
vir vandag het op sowat 800 pannekoeke gestaan.
En hoe gaan mens te werk met só baie beslag? Onder meer met ’n baie groot skottel, 20kg meel en
sowat 160 eiers. “Ons het gister hier gestaan en roer en roer en roer en ons bak al van voor die son
opgekom het,” sê Rolf.
’n Heerlike vars gebakte pannekoek word voor my neergesit en ek hoef nie twee keer te dink voor ek
’n hap vat nie. Die span mág maar pannekoek bak en hulle is glad nie skaam met die kaneelsuiker
nie.
Beslis ’n welkome bederf op ’n koue wintersoggend.
