Rolspelers vergader oor straatkinders

Die ministerie in die presidensie verantwoordelik vir geslagsgelykheid, armoede-uitwissing en maatskaplike welsyn is die gasheer van ’n driedaagse slypskool om ’n oplossing te probeer vind vir kinders wat op straat bly en werk en in konflik met die reg is.
Die adjunkminister, Bernadette Jagger, sê Namibië staar ’n groeiende uitdaging in die gesig met kinders wat om verskeie redes op straat bly weens onder meer mishandeling, verwaarlosing tuis, groepsdruk en armoede. Volgens haar moet deelnemers aan die slypskool met die beste beleidsrigtings vorendag kom om die uitdaging te takel.
“Op straat staar kinders baie uitdagings in die gesig en wat blootstelling aan moeilike omstandighede insluit. Hoewel kinders wat op straat woon, oorwegend seuns is, styg die aantal meisies en wissel die ouderdomme van 12 tot 16 jaar,” het Jagger gesê.
Sy het bygevoeg sommige van die kinders werk op die strate en keer later in die dag huis toe, terwyl ander kinders se ouers ook haweloos is. Sommige van die kinders op straat is van ander lande wat Namibië sonder ouertoesig binnegekom het.
“Ons ervaring met kinders in hierdie kategorie wys sterk verbintenisse moet doeltreffende strategieë in ingrypings ondersteun, omdat die kind tydperke kan hê waarin hulle weer na die strate terugkeer. Dié gevalle vereis spesiale aandag en toesig,” sê Jagger.
Nog ’n uitdaging is die gebruik van middels soos petrol, alkohol en dwelms wat ingrypingstrategieë bemoeilik.
Dit kom saam met gesondheids- en gedragskwessies wat by tye ’n gevaar vir ander inhou.
Maggy Katimba, ’n superintendent by ’n veilige hawe vir dié kinders, sê die kwessie van kinders wat op strate bly, behoort nie net aan die regering alleen oorgelaat word nie, omdat dit iets is wat die insette van almal vereis. - Nampa
