Rooilyn groet stadig maar seker

As deel van die implementering van die tweede nasionale grondberaad se resolusies, beplan die ministerie van landbou om binne die huidige boekjaar die proses te begin om geleidelik die veeartsenykordonheining (VCF), of rooilyn, te verwyder.

Volgens ’n tegniese referaat deur die ministerie wat saam met die begrotingsmotivering van die departement aan die parlement voorgelê is, sluit die plan in om lae risiko bek-en-klouseergebiede (FMD) by FMD-vrye sones in te sluit.

Die ministerie het voorts gesê dat semi-kommersiële eenhede by FMD-vrye sones inkorporeer sou word, wat Karikubis, Kavango, Mangetti-Oos, Tsumkwe-Otjozondjupa, Mangetti-Wes, Oshikoto, Ombuga-Oshana, Omutambo Maowe, Omusati en Sesfontein-Kunene insluit.

Die ministerie beplan ook om te begin met die trek en bemarking van bees van areas wat nie FMD-vry is nie, na areas wat wel vry is van die siekte deur middel van kommoditeitsgebaseerde handel.

Volgens die ministerie sal die direktoraat van Veeartsenykundige dienste (DVS) voortgaan om die beleid te implementeer wat daarop gemik is om nog in hierdie boekjaar toestande te kweek wat boere in die noordelike kommunale gebiede (NCA) sal toelaat om toegang te verkry tot plaaslike, streeks en internasionale markte vir hul diere en diereprodukte.

Aktiwiteite

Die ministerie het gesê sy beplande aktiwiteite duur voort met die strategie en implementeringsplan om ’n VCF op die grens tussen Namibië en Angola op te rig in ’n poging om FMD uit te wis. Dit beplan voorts om ’n oorgrens dieresiekte-vrye sone te vestig, wat onder andere Namibië en dele van Angola sal insluit.

Volgens die ministerie is massa inentings teen siektes soos FMD, longsiekte en hondsdolheid in die 2018/2019 boekjaar uitgevoer. Altesame 416 688 bees is in Namibië teen FMD ingeënt. Dié inentings is in die geïnfekteerde sone en hoë risiko areas van die beskermde sone uitgevoer.

Verder is 967 598 bees in die NCA teen longsiekte ingeënt.

Volgens die ministerie is 2 940 gemeenskapsbesoeke in die NCA uitgevoer en is 563 gemeenskappe suid van die rooilyn besoek, terwyl 2 216 plase verlede jaar geïnspekteer is.

’n Addisionele 159 534 bees in die NCA het ook oorplaatjies gekry.

Intussen, ná die bekendstelling van ’n hondsdolheidprojek in Maart 2016 in die Oshanastreek, is dié inisiatief nou in al agt streke in die NCA in volle gang.

Volgens die ministerie is ’n opleidingsprogram vir inentingspanne ontwikkel en geïmplementeer. Die 49 inentingspanne wat uit 417 lede bestaan, is opgelei in die logistiek rondom die veldtog, die hantering van honde wat ingeënt moet word, asook dataversameling.

Altesame 73 639 honde en 8 024 katte is verlede jaar in die NCA teen hondsdolheid ingeënt. Die projek het ’n verbetering in die dekking van troeteldierinenting en ’n afname in hondsdolheidgevalle tot gevolg gehad.
