Running in the moonlight

The third event in the 2019 Farm Windhoek Fitness Run Series takes place on Saturday (18 May) and the moonlight run is by far the most popular.

If running by moonlight during an eclipse no less, is on your bucket list, then you don't want to miss this event. Whether you want to run, walk, dance or hike your way through the trail, just make sure you enter the 6 or 8 km event.

The 8 km route follows the Serengeti trail into Duiker. It is an easy run and non-technical, while the 6 km route is shorter but more technical and it goes along the Peter Pan, Red Ridge and Duiker trails. Each run starts off on a jeep track before turning into a single track.

All routes are a combination of jeep track, single track and cow trails. There is loose gravel and stones and the surface is uneven.

This year, there will be a 14 km route again, however, this is only open for experienced trail runners who want to race.

After the run, racers can relax and take in an uninterrupted view of the full moon away from the city lights. Local artists will be playing live music while you refuel and rehydrate with great food and drinks from caterers.

The winners receive unique, locally-made medals and cool prizes are up for grabs in the lucky draw. The start and finish line is the Farm Whk Fitness arena, IJG Trails in Kleine Kuppe. All participants must be there at 18:00, ready for the event.

Racers should bring along a headlamp, a jacket for the cold and cash for food and drinks. Participation costs N$200 and registration can be done via Webscorer. Online entries close at 14:00 on Thursday, 16 May. Number collection and late registrations (N$300) is at the Farm Whk Fitness gym area on Friday, 17 May from 17:00 to 19:00.
