Saving the world – again

10 September 2019 | Art and Entertainment

The third instalment in the Fallen trilogy, Angel has fallen, revolves around Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), an elite Secret Service agent with a heart of gold.
Having already saved the free world a couple of times in the last few years, he is now forced to do so again.
IndieWire sums Angel has fallen up as steroidal stuff that Hollywood churned out back when men were men, explosions were the only special effects that mattered, and the President of the United States going into a coma wasn’t the best thing that could possibly happen to national security.
Mike’s wife (Piper Perabo, who seamlessly replaces Radha Mitchell) is pushing him to holster up and accept a desk job running his department. He is hesitant to leave the field; he still wants to feel like a man. And real men don’t take high-paying administrative jobs so they can live to see their daughters grow up.
However, pride is in short supply for Mike, especially after the president he’s sworn to protect is nearly killed in a drone strike during a fishing trip. Played by Morgan Freeman, who’s really stretching his wings with this role, President Allan Trumbull is one of only two people to survive the attack of face-recognising kamikaze robots; Mike is the other, and he’s framed for the crime.
Since this a stand-alone storyline, there’s no need to watch the first two instalments in this trilogy. WE give it 3 out of 5.
