16 days of activism starts

21 November 2019 | Crime

The ministry of gender equality and child welfare launches this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on Friday.
The main event takes place under the theme ‘Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape’ at Windhoek’s Havana informal settlement on Friday, including a march starting at 08:00. “The public is invited to attend the launch, while the private sector, churches and civil society are encouraged to conduct GBV awareness activities during the period of 16 days of activism against GBV,” a statement said.
The march start at the four-way stop along Walvis Bay Street and heads towards the Moses Garoeb constituency office.
The annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence invites citizens to challenge violence against women and girls through deeds of activism. It runs from 25 November until Human Rights Day on 10 December.
The campaign was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership. – Nampa
