According to organiser Sascha Olivier-Sampson, Shimmy for Shelter is Namibia's contribution towards celebrating World Belly Dance Day, which is an international charity initiative.
“Every year we have a new theme for the show to keep it fresh and exciting for our audience,” she said. “This year our theme was 'Decadance' to celebrate a decade of dance. We had performers from Evolve Fire & Entertainment, Silver Sisters and Moon Goddess Dance Studio who was also the host studio.”
She said that during their performance at the coast, they managed to raise N$9 000 for EHRA - Elephant Human Relations Aid. “A special word of thanks to our sponsors Namib Primary School, Corporate Events Gear, The Fun Shop, Desert Breeze, Strand Hotel, Pole Dance Fitness, Annelize, Nouveau Wines and Evolve Fire & Entertainment for their assistance.”
In the capital the audience helped raise an amazing N$22 000 which was donated to Have a Heart. “We thank our supporters and sponsors: Delta Primary School, ConSoAV, Onelight Media, Wecke & Voigts, Sardinia Blue Olive and Nouveau Wines for helping to make the event possible.”
Sascha said that they are very grateful for the support that has been shown over the past ten years “and we hope to see Shimmy for Shelter grow with each year to come”.
