The Namibian Championships of Performing Arts hopes to turn talented Namibian's dreams into a reality. This year's championships take place at the National Theatre of Namibia from 9 to 11 May.
The competition is open to everyone who thinks they have what it takes in the different categories.
According to organiser Lomine Brynard, events like these are important.
“We believe in making people's dreams a reality. You learn that hard work will get you where you want; you learn a winner never quits even if it's hard. Moreover, they gain confidence from being on stage,” she said.
After the Namibian Championships, artists will move on to the World Championships in Los Angeles, the home of what is known as the Olympics of performing arts. Some performers will also compete at the South African Championships, which is the biggest competition in neighbouring South Africa. “Next year Mauritius will be added to the list,” Lomine said.
When going further to compete at the World Championships in Los Angeles and in South Africa, there are scholarships to be won. “At both events, there are also companies who recruit talent,” she said.
“We have amazing performers in this country and they are good enough,” she says.
“Hard work will get you everywhere here. It's not the easiest but its manageable. Just keep going and you will see the results.”
