Terwyl Windhoekers verlede jaar nie die jaarlikse nywerheids- en landbouskou vroeg in Oktober kon bywoon nie – net ’n twee dae lange miniskou aan die einde van Oktober – vind die Windhoek Skou weer vanaf 24 September tot 1 Oktober plaas.
Die Windhoek Skouvereniging het vanjaar met die 061 Festival hande gevat om ’n groter skare te lok wanneer die geleentheid môre afskop. Die 061 Festival is ’n musiek- en kunstefees wat twee keer per jaar by die Windhoek-skougronde aangebied word.
Mnr. Harald Schmidt, visepresident en uitvoerende hoof van die Windhoek Skouvereniging, het gesê hoewel hulle nie baie besoekers verwag nie, hoop hulle die 061 Festival sal ’n groter skare lok om te maak vir die verwagte lae opkoms. Laasgenoemde sal dus sorg vir die musiek, kos en drank, en vermaak.
Volgens Schmidt is landbou – en uiteraard die lewendehaweafdeling – vanjaar die fokuspunt vir die skou, wat nou die Windhoek Agricultural Show genoem sal word.
Hy het egter bygevoeg hoewel die industriële komponent nie by die geleentheid se naam ingesluit word nie, is uitstallings wat nié met die landbousektor verband hou nie, steeds welkom om deel van die geleentheid te wees.
“Ons Grootvee-komitee (beeste) is deur hul kiesers (uitstallers / telers) en - by implikasie - die onderskeie beestelersverenigings, beopdrag om hul deelname aan vanjaar se skou te bevestig. ’n Aantal aksies is aan verskillende komiteelede toegewys. Hulle het onder meer 'n beroep op die Kleinvee-komitee gedoen om vas te stel of kleinvee-telers (skape en bokke) 'n soortgelyke behoefte het om hul sektor by die geleentheid te verteenwoordig. Die reaksie was oorweldigend positief. Op grond hiervan het die Windhoek Skouvereniging besluit om hierdie aanvanklike momentum te gebruik as die fokus vir hierdie jaar se skou,” het Schmidt verduidelik.
Hulle vertrou dat inligting oor lande wat besluit om hul beperkende maatreëls te verslap – in ooreenstemming met globale inentingsinisiatiewe – sal die weg sal baan om geleenthede vir groter groepe wêreldwyd, sowel as in Namibië, aan te bied.
“Ons vertrou die mense sal rasioneel en volgens die regulasies optree. Almal verstaan die werklikheid en erns van Covid-19,” het die Windhoek Observer Schmidt verlede week aangehaal.
