Soetkoekies vir Valentynsdag

Yolanda Nel “Ek moes al baie in my lewe weer van vooraf begin, om saam met my man weer nuwe idees te moet uitdink om te kan oorleef. En ook nou, met die voortslepende droogte, sien ons dit as ’n uitdaging eerder as ’n negatiewe ervaring.”
Só vertel Kobiee Wasserfall, ’n boervrou in die Khomas Hochland. „Sedert November verlede jaar het daar maar net 28mm reën op ons plaas geval,” sê sy. En met die vee wat vrek, moet sy help om ’n ander inkomste te vind. “Maar ek glo die Here sal vir ons deure oopmaak as ons in geloof aan Hom vasklou en hierdie was net weer eens ’n geleentheid wat Hy vir my gegee het om op te staan en nie te gaan lê nie.”
Kobiee bak nou koekies spesiaal vir Valentynsdag. “Ek is absoluut fanaties oor liefde en glo dat dit die mooiste emosie is,” sê sy opgewonde. Dit is juis hoekom sy so uitsien om te begin bak. “Dis ’n heerlike onderwerp om kreatief te kan wees terwyl ons ook ’n inkomste kan genereer. Ek hou daarvan om mense te bederf en iets spesiaals vir hulle te doen. So om elke koekie spesiaal een vir een te versier, mooi en lekker te laat lyk, is vir my ’n vorm van ‘terug gee’ aan ander in liefde.”
Volgens Kobiee wil elke mens tog spesiaal voel en voel jy “hoort”. Dus glo sy elkeen wat ’n boks koekies op Valentynsdag ontvang, baie spesiaal en geliefd gaan voel. Sy maak drie verskillende grotes bokse Valentyskoekies – klein, medium en groot – sowel as twee stokkielekker-koekies om met ’n spesiale persoon te deel. Die bokse bevat verskillende soorte koekies naamlik sjokolade, vanielje en gemmer.
Sy vertel dat met die droogte moes elke boervrou maar inspring en haar kant bring om ’n ekstra inkomste te kan inbring. “Skielik was daar ekstra uitgawes, soos voer vir die beeste en bokke wat nie noodwendig vroeër aangekoop hoef te word nie. Brandstofpryse wat hoegenaamd nie tred hou met die boer se inkomste nie, rantsoene vir jou werksmense wat by die dag duurder word. Ons uitgawes het in ’n oogwink soveel vermeerder, maar die inkomste het al minder en minder geword. Beespryse het geval en ons moes letterlik beesvleis weg gee teen baie lae pryse. Die middelman en winkels is die enigste wat baat by hierdie droogte, want vleispryse is nog steeds hoog as jy vleis gaan koop, maar die boer kry nie eens 50% daarvan nie.”
Kobiee gee ook terug aan ander wat deur die droogte geraak word en 10% van haar koekieverkope sal aan iemand in nood geskenk word.
