Support for soccer centre

21 January 2019 | Society

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) Girls Centre last week received 18 single beds and bedding worth N$75 000 from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). This donation will enhance the centre's capacity to provide a safe and secure space for the football-playing girls.

According to centre manager Jackey Gertze, it will also increase the possibility of generating income by renting out accommodation to other sport teams. “The GIZ continues to be a key partner of women's football development. This gesture has helped us furnish the second floor of the centre, where we take care of girls from as far as Karasburg and Katima Mulilo.”

The centre hosts 15 full-time top players and offers education tutoring, vocational training and healthy lifestyle activities to players. It forms part of a German development cooperation project that works in close cooperation with the Namibian Football Association, the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture, the German Football Association, the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia and GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
