Vars uit die water

Daar is niks wat kers kan vashou by ’n visdis langs die see terwyl die branders in die agtergrond breek nie.

Hentiesbaai • Yolanda Nel



Dis ons eerste besoek aan Go Fishy op Hentiesbaai en nog voordat ek die spyskaart kan bestudeer, weet ek dat ek vanaand vars vis gaan eet.

Drie van ons besluit op kabeljou en die ander gas kies 'n steak.

Daar is vier ander tafels met kliënte. Ons word ingelig dat ons bietjie geduldig sal moet wees omdat hulle besig is.

Ons kos word binne 45 minute bedien en ons is dankbaar dat ons kelner ons vroegtydig oor die wag laat weet het. Maar gelukkig was die wag die moeite werd. Die kabeljou smelt in my mond en net daar, in 'n restaurant op Hentiesbaai, vind ek my nuwe happy place.

Ons ruil stukkies vis en steak uit. Vir iemand wat glad nie 'n viseter is nie, laat weet my gas dat ons beslis die beter keuse gemaak het. Sy steak is wel uit die boeke, wat 'n groot pluimpie is vir 'n restaurant wat hoofsaaklik op seekos fokus.

Die ander twee eet hul hoofgereg met skyfies en ek besluit op wedges, wat nog 'n wenner op die bord was. Al die disse is met koolslaai bedien en ek het dit terdeë geniet.

Die atmosfeer is rustig en die vars, koel seelug is al wat ek nodig gehad vir my gemoed. Hierdie ete was beslis 'n hoogtepunt tydens ons onlangse wegbreeknaweek see toe. Ek sien daarna uit om met ons volgende kuier weer daar 'n draai te gaan maak.
