Vier Basterdag saam

Yolanda Nel Met die doel om ’n dag opsy te sit vir Rehobothers om bymekaar te kom en heerlik te ontspan, is
die Basterdagkonsep gebore en só is daar besluit om op 7 Desember lekker makietie te hou.
“Hierdie dag gaan oor kultuur en om ons kinderdae te onthou,” vertel Patrick Jankowski, wat die
dag help reël. Dit is vir die ouer garde ook belangrik om vir hul kinders en kleinkinders die
speletjies te leer wat hulle eens gespeel het.
Die eerste Basterdag is in 2011 gehou en vanjaar sal die 6de keer wees wat die geleentheid
plaasvind. “Ons probeer dit elke jaar aanbied, maar dit het al gekom dat ons dit ’n paar keer nie
kon bewerkstellig nie,” het hy gesê en bygevoeg dat inwoners baie opgewonde is oor vanjaar se
geleentheid. “Dit is soos een groot familie byeenkoms,” sê hy.
Stalletjies om handgemaakte produkte te verkoop en te bemark kan teen N$100 gehuur word. Die
vure sal op daardie dag by die stadion ook hoog brand. “Of jy lus is vir braaivleis, kerrie afval,
roosterbrood of tradisionele disse, dit sal daar wees,” sê Patrick.
Hoewel daar nie sangvermaak vir die dag gereël word nie, sal daar ’n verhoog wees vir diegene
wat wel ’n liedjie of twee tydens die verrigtinge wil sing.
Een van die groot redes hoekom hierdie geleentheid ook so belangrik is, is omdat dit jongmense
en kinders van die straat afhou. “Dwelms is ’n groot probleem in ons gemeenskap en die grootste
rede hiervoor is ’n tekort aan ontspanningsaktiwiteite. Kinders word vasgevang in huise en as hulle
dan die geleentheid kry om iets te doen, hang hulle op straat rond en vang nonsens aan,” sê hy.
