Yolanda Nel - Dumplin' speel af in 'n klein dorpie in Texas waar 'n ma en dogter hard probeer om die vrede te bewaar.

Die flik is gebaseer op Julie Murphy se 2015 roman met dieselfde titel. Willowdean Dickson (Danielle Macdonald), of te wel Dumplin' soos haar ma haar noem, word grotendeels deur haar tannie Lucy grootgemaak by wie sy 'n voorliefde vir Dolly Parton se musiek leer.

Dit is dan ook haar tannie wat haar aan Ellen Dryver (Odeya Rush) voorstel en die twee word onmiddellik boesemvriende.

Net voor Willowdean die laaste jaar van haar skoolloopbaan aandurf, is haar tannie skielik dood en moet sy en haar ma Rosie (Jennifer Aniston) in een huis probeer saamleef. Rosie is 'n voormalige skoonheidskoniging en 'n bekende op die dorp. Omdat Willowdean nie die perfekte lyfie het vir 'n skoonheidskoniging nie, het sy en haar ma nie veel in gemeen nie.

Terwyl Willowdean besig is om haar tannie se besittings uit te sorteer, kom sy op 'n inskrywingsvorm af waar Lucy self wou deelneem aan 'n bekende skoonheidskompetitisie op die dorp. Sy besef haar tannie het moontlik nooit ingeskryf nie omdat sy groot gebou is. Daarom besluit Willowdean om in te skryf as deel van 'n protes in hakskoene.

Benewens die feit dat dit haar ma ietwat in die oë sit, motiveer dit ook ander meisies wat nie die “kriteria” volg nie, om deel te neem.

Beide ma en dogter leer deur die loop van die skoonheidskompetisie nie net meer van hulself nie, maar ook meer van mekaar. Met tye loop die emosies hoog, maar dit is grotendeels 'n heerlike komedie wat jonk en oud kan geniet.

As jy eenvoudig wil agteruit sit en net 'n film wil geniet, trek jou dogter nader of kry al jou vriendinne bymekaar. Hierdie is 'n heerlike lag film. WE gee dit 4 uit 5.
