Vir 'n lekker mondvol

Of jy die langpad deur Gobabis aanpak en of die dorp jou eindbestemming is, doen jouself 'n guns en gaan maak by hierdie koffiewinkel 'n draai.

Met die inloopslag sien ek amper nie die naam raak nie, maar met sy groen geverfde mure, kan die Groentemandjie koffiewinkel op Gobabis beswaarlik misgeloop word. Jy moet letterlik eers by die groentewinkel instap voor jy die deure vir die koffiewinkel vind. Tog is die klein eetplekkie 'n brokkie goud.

Met ons onlangse kuier daar, glimlag ons kelnerin vriendelik en sit drie spyskaarte op die tafel voor ons neer.

Sonder om te skroom, bestel ek die grootste gesoute karamel melkskommel denkbaar. My eetmaats is voorbeeldig en drink onderskeidelik water en sap. Maar na die eerste sluk weet ek: Enigiets wat só lekker smaak, is die kalorieë werd.

Ons daguitstappie na Gobabis was uitputtend in die hitte en met die langpad terug Windhoek toe wat nog voorlê, was 'n groot bord kos nie vir ons beskore nie. Die koffiekroeg het gelukkig 'n wye verskeidenheid ligte etes en ons besluit op 'n vol brötchen met biltong, avokadopeer en tamatie. Ek besluit om die tamatie vir kaas te ruil.

En was die broodjie nou nie 'n hoogtepunt vir die dag nie! Ons hoef nie te soek vir die biltong op die bord nie, want dit is oral en elke hap is sowaar 'n mondvol heerlike beesvleis. Na die ete bly daar genoeg biltong in die bord oor vir 'n peuselhappie.

Boonop is die prys billik. Die vol brötchen en melkskommel het my maar N$53 uit die sak gejaag.

Ek sal die koffiewinkel vir enige iemand aanbeveel as hulle hulself ooit in die gewest (of ooste) bevind. Die diens is vinnig en die personeel vriendelik.

Teen middagete het 'n paar gereelde besoekers die stoele kom vol sit – van hulle vir 'n vinnige koffie en ander vir 'n vergadering of twee. As jy só met die uitstap onthou van vanaand se aandete, kan jy sommer gou al jou groente in 'n mandjie pak.

Gaan maak gerus 'n draai. Jy sal nie spyt wees nie.
