Watertoevoer bly 'n uitdaging

Tydens 'n onlangse onderhoud met Nampa, het inwoners van die ne-dersetting wat sowat 45km suidoos van Windhoek geleë is, gesê die nimmereindigende probleme met watertoevoer het hulle gedwing om by die situasie aan te pas eerder as om op 'n oplossing te hoop.

Een inwoner, Thurstan Beukes, het gesê sy buurman – wat water van die reservoir bekom – water aan vier huishoudings, insluitend Beukes s'n, verskaf. Dit veroorsaak groot ongerief.

Nog 'n inwoner, Jacobus Smith, het gesê inwoners dra swaar aan die watersituasie aangesien hulle nie Sondae en Woensdae water kry nie, en dus gaan hulle maar daarsonder as hulle nie genoeg geberg het nie.

“Daar is vandag nie water nie, so ons moet klaarkom met die min water wat ons het,” het hy gesê.

'n Raadslid van die Windhoek se landelike kiesafdeling, Penina Ita, het gesê hoewel die waterkwessie nog nie heeltemal opgelos is nie, het dit verbeter sedert die Windhoekse munisipaliteit die administrasie van die nedersetting in September 2017 oorgeneem het.

Sy het gesê die munisipaliteit het plaaslike inwoners aangestel om 'n boorgatkraan oop en toe te draai in plaas daarvan dat dit aanhoudend loop en dus waterbronne uitput. “Ons is heeltemal afhanklik van die boorgatstelsel wat deur reën aangevul word, so die boorgat se water sak aanhoudend. Dit beteken daar is nie genoeg water om aan almal se be-hoeftes te voorsien nie,” het sy gesê.

“Die rekening om water tot verlede Maart te pomp, was N$80 000 en geen inwoner kon daarvoor betaal nie,” het Ita bygevoeg.

Sy het gesê die munisipaliteit ontwikkel maatreëls, wat in Augustus in werking sal tree, sodat die gemeenskap vir water en krag sal begin betaal ten einde die nodige toerustung soos pype en boorgate aan te skaf.

Oor hierdie voorgestelde maatreëls, sê inwoners dat werkloosheid in die nedersetting dit vir hulle bykans onmoontlik maak om vir water- en kragdienste te betaal.

Ita het beklemtoon dat mense meer innoverend moet wees eerder as om aanhoudend op werk te wag. “So graag soos ons sou wou hê die regering moet werk aan ons voorsien, is daar min poste beskikbaar. Daar is wel werkskeppingsgeleenthede op Groot Aub, onder andere tuinwerk en die herstel van drade.”
