Windhoekers continue to waste water
14 November 2019 | Disasters
According to the City’s Corporate Communications Officer Lydia Amutenya, NamWater is only able to supply Windhoek with a portion of the city’s required, projected water demand per week. “The rest of the water must be sourced from our water reclamation plant and the Windhoek aquifer. Continuously exceeding our target is not sustainable.”
Water restrictions have been in force since 1 July 2019 and since then residents have been continuously reminded to manage their consumption within the applicable restrictions to achieve the water saving target. “(Despite these warnings) the high water consumption charges remain in place,” Amutenya said adding that other restrictions, which include the washing of vehicles at home, remain in place.
