Since then Zodidi Gaseb’s idea has grown and together with Kumbi Short, Maliza Mukungu and Sharon Emvula, the Natural Hair and Beauty expo was born.
According to Zodidi, they took a break last year to focus on other endeavours, “however, that did not stop the birth of an idea to expand the essence of the Natural Hair & Beauty Expo into the Afro Future Festival,” she says.
Zodidi says the expo is a blending of the future, the past and the present and celebrating African aesthetics, entrepreneurship, fashion, music, art, natural hair and skin products and of course, delicious local food.
“With topics such as the relevance of Afro-futurism in our society and in particular art, introduced by Nikolai Tjongarero and Alina Mateke Muziwembiri to start the day, colourism, a discussion with founder of Akoma Talks Beatrice Schultz and Agnes Yeboah as well as the basics of natural hair care with Maliza Mukungu and myself, it will indeed be a fruitful morning.”
The talented ML will perform her latest music as guests enjoy purchases from local entrepreneurs who have travelled from other parts of Namibia to sell their products and services. Other entertainment includes Bobby Gaseb aka Banganibo with his own eclectic version of RnB, Tapz Munyama and friends who have a surprise in store, Gabakas with poetry and an open mic session during the afternoon – all delivering a full day of celebrations.
“We will be showcasing 30 vendors with the most amazing products and services – all people who live and breathe passion whilst encouraging economic growth; entrepreneurs who are not only creative but who make their own hair and skin products, accessories, run online businesses and create the most delicious food and drinks. As it’s a family event, bring your children and indulge in games and fun, board games and amagos for the adults and general enjoyment,” Zodidi says.
The event takes place on Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 at the Theatre School in Robert Mugabe Ave. Tickets are N$50, student tickets with student card are priced at N$20 and entrance is free for under 16. Tickets can be bought at the gate.
