Barry de Klerk - The Windhoek Life Change Centre (WLCC) is working towards making the city a better place to live in for all residents.Through community-based projects that combat poverty, WLCC strives to better the life of people in various communities, while creating hope for the hopeless.
Their vision is to have a community of people where everybody is able to accept, comprehend and live out God's love.
WLCC has been active in Windhoek for more than 16 years.
The interdenominational community centre is managed by a board of trustees who are in turn assisted by a full-time project manager and project coordinators.
Feeding scheme
Thanks to various partners, WLCC is able to feed about 26 000 people in Windhoek and surrounds, which includes 1 050 pre-school children, 4 500 secondary school learners, 20 000 people that are fed through a community feeding scheme along with 436 individuals who collect food from the centre.
One of their beneficiaries is Emma Motseng. Emma came to the Windhoek Life Change Centre seeking assistance and has since volunteered for various programmes run by centre. She currently serves as the head chef there and is responsible for feeding 4 500 learners every week. Since the WLCC needs donations and sponsors to help keep them going and to reach more vulnerable residents of Windhoek, the centre invites individuals and corporates to be part of their projects.
Donors, volunteers and sponsors can help with the centre's administrational costs, special projects, their database, their special skills projects and their pre-primary education programmes.
They also accept food and clothing donations which will be handed over to people in vulnerable communities around the city.
