Construction plans for a new private hospital for Okahandja are currently being discussed.

According to Philip Endjala of the Okahandja municipality, a date has not been confirmed when the construction will start and they are still waiting to receive the agreement.

A contractor should also still be appointed for this N$30 million project.

The need for a private hospital in the town is very important as Okahandja serves as a connection to the north as well as to the coast. “During emergency situations like car accidents, people can be treated sooner when they can be taken to the hospital in Okahandja. The need to send people to Windhoek for medical care will be minimised,” Endjala said.

He said the roads in this area are very problematic and a new hospital will reduce transfers to the capital.
