Waterberg in the spotlight

Next Tuesday (23 January), the Scientific Society hosts a public talk by Sven Eric Stender on the Waterberg - Namibia's Table Mountain on the edge of the Kalahari.

For many travellers, be it tourists or Namibians, it is at the bottom of their bucket list of destinations in Namibia, if at all: the Waterberg in the northern central of Namibia. They do not know what they are missing!

The Waterberg is a huge table mountain with a fascinating genesis. With the springs on its south-eastern slopes, it is one of the most diverse flora areas in southern Africa and a paradise for birds. The national park on its plateau is home to endangered rhinos, buffalos and other rare animals. At the same time, the Waterberg is a memorial of history due to the battles between Herero and Germans in August 1904, which forms a bond between Namibia and Germany to this very day.

The Namibia Scientific Society in cooperation with the private nature reserve Waterberg Wilderness (on farm Otjosongombe), is offering a weekend excursion to the Waterberg on 16 February.

For next week’s talk, marketing/PR consultant and journalist Sven-Eric Stender, who has been working for Waterberg Wilderness for more than ten years, gives a taste of what to expect in terms of the geology, flora, fauna and history of the Waterberg.

The presentation starts at 19:30.
