Hamunime to lead BoN’s strategic communications
The Bank of Namibia (BoN) has announced the appointment of Naufiku Hamunime as the acting deputy director for corporate communications and sustainability.In her new role, Hamunime will focus on enhancing stakeholder engagement through strategic communication and transparency, promoting sector-wide dialogue on sustainable finance and climate-related matters, and managing the bank’s international partnerships.
These include collaborations with central banks, multilateral institutions and development agencies aimed at fostering institutional learning, aligning policies, encouraging innovation and strengthening formal cooperation.
Hamunime brings a strong foundation in development economics to the position.
She previously served as the technical expert for sustainability and international relations at BoN.
Robust professional career
Before joining the bank, she held several roles at Standard Bank Namibia, where she developed key strategic and research capabilities.
As head of business development, she managed strategic partnerships and spearheaded the bank’s ecosystem acquisition strategy in both retail and commercial segments.
Before that, she worked as the bank’s economist, leading economic research and policy analysis to support informed institutional decision-making.
Academically, Hamunime holds a master of philosophy degree in development finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School in South Africa and a master of science degree in African development from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom.
She also earned a bachelor of science (Honours) degree in economics and geography from Rhodes University in South Africa.
