NamPol “jobs” on social media fake

Widespread posts on social media stating that the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) is recruiting more than a 1 000 cadet constable positions, is devoid of truth.

NamPol has disassociated itself from these broadcasts. “There are no planned recruitments in the current or in the next financial year due to budgetary constraints,” chief inspector Kauna Shikwambi said in a statement.

The detailed recruitment posts on social media offer a salary of between N$51 778 and N$67 329 per annum.

“The incumbents will be responsible for the maintenance of law and order, preservation of the internal security of Namibia, investigation of any offence or alleged offence, prevention of crime and protection of life and property,” read an entry on Facebook.

While some immediately saw this as a hoax, others where excited to apply, seeing it as a good opportunity. “They will add a house and transport allowance, and if you have other qualifications they add that too when you are done with training. That is the salary you will get when you are in training but once done you will be a full Constable and then the salary will be increased,” according to one misguided entry.

The same posts about recruitments were made on social media last year as well.

“Whenever the police force embarks on general recruitment, vacancies will be advertised in the various media outlets and also be published on our website at www.nampol.gov.na,” Shikwambi said.

She thus urged the public to ignore misleading information circulating on social media.
