Settle outstanding tax now!

In spite of the tax amnesty, taxpayers have not taken full advantage of the programme while the deadline for settling outstanding amounts without interest and penalties is looming.

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) Commissioner for Inland Revenue, Justice Mwafongwe, said that taxpayers had enough time to take advantage of the opportunity to cut 80 per cent of interest and waive penalties on outstanding amounts.

The amnesty was announced in January as part of the MOF's tax collection and recovery effort, with outstanding amounts that should be settled before the end of July 2017 for taxpayers to benefit from the programme.

According to Taxation Officer Tanya Bock, there will be no extension as tax payers had enough time to settle their accounts.

Taxpayers owe government around N$19 billion, of which N$4 billion is principal debt and N$15 billion is interest and penalties incurred. –Nampa
